The problem
Thailand is amongst the top 10 countries in the world with the largest number of trafficking victims. Traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion to lure their victims and force them into labor or commercial sexual exploitation. According to the Global Slavery Index, Thailand is home to about 610,000 human trafficking victims; many of them are migrant children trafficked especially for sexual exploitation.
The solution
Our goal is to infiltrate the most vulnerable communities before the traffickers can. Most of the children being trafficked are being sold by their parents. They don’t know Jesus. They are addicted to drugs, alcohol, and gambling. They find themselves in desperate situations, and end up selling their children for a quick buck. Some parents are also being tricked into believing their child has an opportunity to go study in the big city, but then their children are never seen again. We bring the gospel into these communities and Jesus transforms their lives completely. We want to see the family unit strengthened, families being educated on the danger their children are in, we provide education so their children can grow up and have more opportunities, we provide food aid and medical care. Just taking care of someone’s basic necessities can deter them from selling their children. Prevention also opens up the doors for us to rescue more children in desperate situations. Prevention is how we hear about the majority of our rescue cases.
